STOP - Students Together Opposing Prejudice
Recently, twenty-eight Albany High School students attended the 7th Annual STOP Conference at Siena College. The conference is part of Siena College's Martin Luther King, Jr. & Coretta Scott King lecture series on race and nonviolent social change. Our students joined students from 17 area schools participating in activiites, workshops, discussions, and action planning focused on issues of tolerance and respect. The students worked together with an adult facilitator to discuss, in small groups and as an entire group of 200 plus, ways to become involved in their communities, both school and home. Students learned how to "...be the change they wish to see in the world..." (Gandhi) and address the issues of bullying, discrimination, and how to work to extinguish intolerance.
