"Albany High Gives a Sheet"- $1320 and sheets, sheets, sheets!!!
In September, after Tropical Storm Irene passed through the area, Albany High reached out to the folks in the Schoharie Valley to see how we could help. At that time there was a need for bedding. From this conversation of need, the Albany High Gives a Sheet, sheet/fund drive was initiated.
Two Leadership Academy seniors, Jaquan Williams and Wesley Pluviose-Philip, as part of the International Baccalaureate diploma program CAS service requirement, took up the challenge! Jaquan and Wesley approached an Albany based sports apparel business owner and procured a donation of t-shirts so that anyone donating a set of sheets or $20 or more would receive a free t-shirt.
To date the sheet/fund drive has received 25 sets of sheets/sets, 9 blankets/comforters/quilts, and $1220 in cash with a matching $100 gift card donation from Stewart’s Shops. The Schoharie County Community Action Program, Inc. (SCCAP), in Cobleskill, NY, was the recipient organization for the donation.
