Lunch with Leader
Miss New York 2012 - Kaitlin Monte
“It’s amazing what you can accomplish when
you don’t care who gets the credit!”
Miss Monte was recently a guest of our Academy where she presented her Breaking Down Bullying talk, reaching out to an assembly of approximately 330 high school students to encourage them to advocate for putting an end to bullying. Kaitlin was a dynamic speaker who held the attention of all of the students with her message that bullying is not okay! The students were encouraged to step up and be leaders and speak out against bullying.
Sixty one students had the opportunity to meet with Kaitlin in a more intimate setting when they attended one of three Lunch with a Leader luncheons. In this informal setting, Kaitlin talked about using her position as Miss New York in a leadership role to reach out to people to help her put an end to bullying through education and through participation in her online petition in support of cyber bullying legislation. Her message was clear – anyone can work to be a leader!
Comments from students: “…anyone can try to be a great person!” “ Wow! She likes chemistry and math!” “She taught us how to be a better role model.” “…how education is important…” “…use my brains to help others…” “[She inspired us to] take advantage of opportunities to use your education to further yourself and other people.” “It’s not all about being pretty. You have to help people, work hard, and be smart !”
"Kaitlin is a professional stage and screen actress whose work has taken her around the country. She is also Executive Director of Operations for Project Empower, a non-profit education initiative she helped launch based in New York City.
She began professionally at age 15 touring with an entertainment band across the Northeast. As a student, in the eighth grade, Kaitlin earned her first college credits in engineering courses through Rochester Institute of Technology. At age 16 Kaitlin began her freshman year of college after being accepted to Clarkson University on academic merit. After her freshman year she transferred to the University of Tampa where she graduated at age 19 with a Bachelor Degree in Performing Arts and a concentration in Public Relations and Consumer Psychology.
In 2011 Kaitlin won the title of Miss New York and began advocating her anti-bullying platform throughout schools and communities across the state and country. She serves as partner with New York Senator Jeffery Klein to support his 2011 Cyberbullying Bill, helping to kick off his state-wide Cyberbully Census in 2011." Kaitlin's full bio...
